Steve explains

 Our 2 World Record Attempts

The time for 'Thriller' is drawing near
and there is some confusion as to what time the dance is and where. I am often being asked "what is happening at 1.30am?"

Let me explain.
Last year Bolton got involved for the first time in a project called 'Thrill the World' and I, Steve, was the organizer. This was at 7pm on a Saturday night in late October. The aim of 'Thrill the World is to get as many people around the world, doing the dance at the same time. This is an annual event and is happening again this year.

We had 112 zombies in Hayward leisure center and all had a fantastic time. We enjoyed it so much that we decided there and then that for 2009 we would try and go as big as we could.

If we had a time of 7pm then some other countries had really bad times like 5am etc.

When we decided to go as large as we could, we hadn't counted on the fact that our time in the UK might change. You guessed it. It did. We found out a few months ago that the UK time for this year's event would be 1.30 am on Sunday morning 25th October.

We thought that it would be really difficult to get the amount of people we wanted, especially children, if we are doing it at 1.30 am.

So we decided that, yes we will still do 'Thrill the World' but why not have our own World Record here in Bolton. And we could do it at a time of our choosing.

Lets try to get 3000 people to do the dance on Halloween at 7pm we thought. People will be dressing up and maybe going to Halloween parties. Come with us for a Halloween to really remember. No trick or treating to do. Learn a dance that you will never forget (impress friends at the works party or family weddings) help raise money for charity and end up in the Guinness book of records.

I made a point of not advertising 'Thrill the World' because i want the focus to be on our own world record with Bolton Thrillermania 2009.

So, if you have been learning the dance and want to try out your zombie costume then please come and join us at Hayward leisure center at midnight on Saturday night / Sunday morning 24th/25th October. The dance is at 1.30 but you will need time to register, pay (£3 on the door) and run through the dance a few times.

But please remember, the main event is on Halloween Saturday 31st October at 7pm. Harper Green Leisure Centre, Harper Green road, Farnworth, Bolton. BL4 0DH Tel 01204 334234 Tickets from Bolton Albert Halls box office Tel 01204 334400 (£6)
